Jenny Tang - Lecturer in Food and Nutrition

Jenny taught and was the Head of Health Education and the Head of Student Activities for a primary school and a secondary school in Hong Kong, before migrating to the UK. She was actively involved in curriculum development as part of a subject committee for Health Management and Social Care at the Education Bureau of Hong Kong. This role included being part of a focus group responsible for training teachers, providing CPD workshops on the application of Field Learning Experiences in supporting students’ academic performances, and developing teaching resources for the subject. She was an examiner for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Health Management and Social Care between 2012 and 2021.

Jenny has a master’s in Students’ Activities in Education and has used her knowledge and experience to develop students’ activities systems in Hong Kong train school settings to foster holistic development and extend students’ potential to support their school performances.

She is passionate about nutrition and decided to enrich her knowledge about this in 2013, when she completed an Advanced Diploma in Child and Adolescence Nutrition. As well as teaching Health Management and Social Care, she also designed a school-based Health Education programme for the younger students. This encouraged them to apply the nutritional knowledge learned in lessons into their daily practices, as well as leading senior students to promote healthy dietary practices in the community, including nursery, hospital wards and care homes.

She empowers and supports students to contribute to the community through think design and voluntary services. She is now a copywriter responsible for devising a curriculum in volunteerism in education funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. This organisation advocates caring for and in the community about pressing issues, that include sustainability, ageing, and social inclusion, through a structured curriculum and voluntary services.
