2 October 2024
“I knew I wanted to be a nanny from the time I was 14. It was an unusual goal for a sporty boy growing up in Brighton. I was into soccer and skateboarding, and my other career goal was to be a skateboard film maker.”
Norland Nanny Ike (Set 43) is currently working with a family in New York City, US. In an interview with Business Insider, he shares his journey to Norland, his experience of training as one of only a small number of male students and his career as a Norland Nanny so far.
Find out more about Ike’s aspirations to become a Norland Nanny and his experience at Norland by watching his My Norland Story film. You can follow Ike’s nanny life on Instagram.

Male students at Norland
The first two male Norland degree graduates qualified as Norland Nannies in 2019. Male students make up around 3% of the Norland student body, which is in line with the national early years industry.
Initiatives to encourage more men to apply to Norland are seeing results. Five new first-year male students – the highest number in Norland’s 132-year history – began their training in September 2024.
